What is the Carter County Imagination Library?
The program provides a new, age-appropriate, hardcover book each month to children from birth to age five at no cost to the family.

Who is sponsoring the Carter County Imagination Library?

A committee has been formed to oversee the project. Committee members include representatives from the County Commission, City Council, City and County school systems, the public library, and other interested groups.

The Kiwanis Club will be handling the fundraising as an Educational Foundation project.

Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library is handling registration.

How are the books selected and are they the same every year?

There is a national committee of individuals who meet each year to review the Library.  The committee is composed of representatives from Parents as Teachers National Center, the International Reading Association, the University of Tennessee, and the school system.  New titles are introduced each year so younger siblings will not receive the exact same books as their older siblings.

Is my child eligible for this program?

All children from birth to their fifth birthday who live in Carter County are eligible to receive these books at no cost to the family and regardless of income.

How do I sign up my child?

Registration forms are available at various locations such as the library, the hospital, day care centers, doctors' offices, etc. Only a parent or legal guardian can sign up his or her own child. Click here for a printable registration form.

Who pays for the books?

The cost will be split evenly between the GBBF (Governor's Books from Birth Foundation) and local fundraising efforts.

How can I make a financial contribution?

The program costs $30 per year per child, so just $150.00 can provide 60 books for a child.
